Camp Bridge Kids
Last summer, ABB launched our first Vacation Bible School in South Arlington, to help kids learn about God's love for them, in a fun and engaging program. This one-week day camp was so successful, we're expanding it into a month-long program in July we're calling "Camp Bridge Kids." Several of our partner churches are collaborating in this effort to create a unified program, with each church hosting a week at Greenbrier Baptist Church.
Camp Bridge Kids is a great example of how Arlington Bridge Builders fosters partnerships to serve our vulnerable neighbors, by our being what is called a “bridge organization.” Rather than supplanting the work of the local church by recruiting volunteers to serve under the ABB banner, we help churches fulfill their goals and calling, in a cohesive and collaborative way.
For example, one church is organizing a cross-cultural service project for their high schoolers, by serving kids from a different socio-economic background during the morning, and then planning outings for the youth in the afternoon. Another church will be including their elementary age kids in the program for one week and recruiting adult volunteers, so that their children are learning about God alongside first-generation immigrant kids. And by each church using Vacation Bible School material from the same publisher, all the programming will have a cohesive purpose and feel. In that way, Camp Bridge Kids will be like a mosaic, with all the individual pieces coming together to create a beautiful image.
